(first cousin named in ‘the mill below owl castle’)

“but there, everything has its drawbacks,
as the man said
when his mother-in-law died
and they came down upon him
for the funeral expenses.”
(jerome k. jerome. 1859-1927)
this quotation reminds the poet of the
funeral of his mother
his first cousin had apparently paid
for her funeral?
but mom had told the poet some time
beforehand
that she had paid for the arrangements
herself/ naming the funeral parlour
in felpu.
and so his dear cousin had taken the
savings off his rental account
he didn’t pay the poet and sole inheritor
but bought himself a new car instead.
since then fraud from a family member
has not only hurt the poet deeply
but also created a schism –
an even deeper rift
so deeply/ deeply
he wouldn’t ever listen to one word
of his cousin’s lies –
ever!
damn you/ teeb! damn you!
