Like a Regular Customer

Since I came to taste

The exquisite range of beers

During the dog-teeth of last

Summer

I now wait for my next bus

Sipping a Zweigelt red.

The dusky barman already

Knows me

Serving my ‘Achterl’ as I come

Through the double swing door.

A regular customer.

If you think of a relative long time

You felt standing at a bus station

Sipping an 1/8 l of red wine

Seems a good time employed

For just doing that

Without haste.

In between sips I may write

A stanza or two

For this is an ideal pit stop.

Wouldn’t you say?

Certainly if one hasn’t got

Direct family at all.

But are family members equipped

To offer empathy?
