Instant Catharsis

Without a warning

She had collapsed

I did not even notice

The slightest sign

Headphones on and

Typing on my laptop.

Then a cry for help with

With some loud and

Angry remarks at me

For not having reacted

Quicker.

Torn from a poet’s

Other world

It all came to me as a

Shock.

She was cowering on

The lam-wood-floor

Her supper brought up

I quickly cleaned up

The foul smelling stuff

Helped her up

She had no strength left

To freshen up.

She had lost her goods

To greedy people

Never recovered from

The hard knocks of life.

‘Life’s the meanest thief’

She mumbled.

‘You have to stay here

Today’

‘Sure’.

I phoned Mrs Ira to cancel

Our meeting. She was

Concerned.

This instant Catharsis happens

To my spouse in a strange rhythm                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               of years

Unexpectedly

She describes as a volcanic eruption.

It’s painful to see her thin body

Convulsing

Her stomach a wringer.

It’ll take a day or two to quieten

Her down

Replace lost energies and fluids.

But she’ll recover.

She had in the past.

She’s a fighter.
