SHUT

He orders me to be

with him

his right hand sorting out

his life.

Documents and photographs

packs of it

sorting into envelopes –

It’s for the family after my

departure –

He mumbles.

I travel one hour to town

and do my thing

before I’ll meet him

take him out of Jordan Street

and walk with him to

Wipplinger Street

where the sorting of his life’s

photographs and documents

takes place.

Keys.

Walking stick.

Hat and bag.

A catalogue and calling cards.

You should have with you

he mumbles with indignant

gestures

that I don’t have any of these

items in my bag.

A personal guide has to

shut his eyes and ears

at times.
